Camino Wander #3 – Still Anxious.
As I write this (March 2025), I’m about to embark on my third Camino. You’d think I’d be cool as a cucumber this time… nope.
My first Camino wander was solo in 2018. I was an absolute nervous wreck then. In 2019, I walked with my husband and I was so caught up in his experience, that I was anxious for him as well.
As I gear up for my third Camino, I’m feeling a mix of excitement and a bit of nerves. This trip feels special, especially since it might be my last time of walking the Camino. (Never say never, but it’s a feeling I have.) I really want to soak it all in!
I’ve got two main goals for this wander: First, to figure out what’s next for me when it comes to my business and structuring my life; and second, to get inspired for my novel “FINDING THE WAY.”
I’m living my best life; there’s no denying that—and I’m incredibly privileged for it.
But whether it’s menopause or just the chaos of the past few years—which has been a bit of a train wreck really—I’ve been under a lot of stress. Between spine surgery, my husband’s cancer battle, buying a house, restoring it, and trying to run a business, it’s been a bit… hectic.
I know the Camino will provide some peace… and some clarity. I’m also looking to soak up the details along the Camino, to create an authentic vibe in my next novel, FINDING THE WAY.
But honestly, there’s some anxiety from everything going on in the world right now; it can feel overwhelming at times.
For those who don’t know me well: My husband is American, our daughter has dual citizenship, and many friends live in the U.S. too—so there’s constant worry over what all these developments mean for them. With the current global situation, it has me more wrung out than a dishcloth.
Beyond all the swirling thoughts that keep me awake at night, I’m anxious about traveling alone for the first time in my life! I’ve never felt anxious traveling solo before—I’m usually very independent! This time, I’m nervous. Sure most of the time I’m away, I’ll be walking through Spain, but it’s the unknown that has me on edge this time.
All I can do is prepare myself for the trip and go with a positive mindset. That’s something I have control over.
Any tips on dealing with the anxiety? Let me know!
